Monthly guide to woodland wildlife

June

Trees are often at their best in June. The leaves are fully expanded and are a fresh intense green. This helps to hide newly fledged songbirds from predators such as sparrowhawks. You may see blue tits flying into the nest boxes to feed young.

The young trees push out most of their new growth in June adding many inches in height from the growing tips.

In the wild flower patch ox eye daisy, birdsfoot trefoil, sorrel, self heal, and knapweed are in flower.
