Monthly guide to woodland wildlife

April

Cowslips can be seen flowering in the wild flower patch and stitchwort may be seen along the hedgerows.

Look out for chiffchaffs, willow warbler, song thrush, linnets, yellow hammer, and of course cuckoos.

On warm days ladybirds crawl onto logs to sun themselves.

At the end of April, the St. Mark’s fly can be seen - large, black and trailing long hairy legs - they dance in the air on warm sunny days and provide easy food for birds.
