While most plants seem to be dormant this month, mosses, liverworts and lichens flourish in the dampness without competition from other flora. Cushions of moss examined close up on an old log are very attractive and should draw admiration from the most lawn proud gardeners!

Check mud and sand patches for tracks of deer, fox, badger, rabbit and pheasant.
