19 people got up with the lark, to listen to the dawn chorus at 5am in the Community Woodland, fortified with hot coffee and rolls. It was a beautiful clear morning and two tawny owls called to each other across the woodland, as the sun rose. A last bat was seen and a rather surprising mallard duck, joined a wren to start the first wave of calls, including a robin and dozens of blackbirds. John Woolliams identified 21different species of bird for us, repeating their calls, and we all managed to identify a local cockerel. A song thrush and blackcap joined the chorus at the end of the hour, and a swallow was seen, flying overhead.
